People have been getting big licks on Zoom for their tasteful book collections. These are some of my shelves. Tasteful not. The title sticking us in the eye is John Holmstrom’s graphically exciting 2013 book, The Best of Punk Magazine. What we have here is a collection of my written journalism, specifically from the period 1981-87 when I freelanced from San Francisco, most regularly for the BBC and The Glasgow Herald. It was a great period for the paper under its brilliant editor, the late Arnold Kemp. The paper’s chief assistant editor Ronnie Anderson took me under his wing. And gradually I learned how to write a newspaper story.
